“Coming Soon”, the Carlson’s !!!

“Coming Soon”, the Carlsons! from Image Video Productions on Vimeo.

We had the awesome opportunity to do an NYC engagement shoot with Jen and DJ early in June. They wanted to do some of their shots near the Brooklyn Bridge which was a real treat for us. After the Bridge, we headed into Manhattan and got stuck in traffic for what seemed like hours. As we crawled our way to upper Manhattan, Jess kept getting out of the car with Jen & DJ when she’d spy a great “photo op” spot. LOL !!! When we finally hit Uptown, 46th Street was closed to traffic for Vendor Day Street Fair. What a great time !!! And, it gave us lots of video op to create Jen & DJ’s “Coming Soon” teaser.

Robinson’s Charger

In most of the weddings we do, the bride and her prep are one of the first things we concentrate on. However, for Sonia & Donny’s wedding, we had the opportunity to work with the groom, his groomsmen, and their idol… Donny’s 2009 Dodge Charger!

This video is done in Fusion style, which is a combination of photography & video done with the same camera. It’s a great new alternative to traditional video so enjoy!

This past July, our Image Team of Jess and Julianna made their way to Old Saybrook to capture wonderful wedding day memories for Joanna & Josh. Here are some of their favorites. Enjoy everyone!

The “New” Face of Image

Rachele + Nick from Rose Mary Lalonde on Vimeo.

Image Photography & Video is pleased to announce that Rachele & Nick Sarro have been chosen as the “new” face of Image for 2010 and beyond! The Image Photo/Video Team captured the Sarro’s wedding on June 6, 2009 and one particular photograph captured by Julianna Keklik really hit home with all of us. It’s simple and beautiful. It has a voice of it’s own and it says volumes without words.

Niki & Jonathan’s Block Island Wedding

Niki & Jonathan’s Block Island Wedding from Rose Mary Lalonde on Vimeo.

September 19, 2009 was an amazing day on Block Island.  We had the opportunity to photograph and video a wedding there for Niki & Jonathan.   Our team of  Jess, Julianna and Maura started out in the wee hours of the morning and drove two-and-a-half hours to get the ferry to Block Island.  Aside from getting a little “sea-sick” on the hour-an-a-half boat journey, the girls enjoyed their time and Maura went video crazy (thank God!).  After arriving, the girls checked into a lovely condo attached to the Spring House, headed out to the rehearsal and then to rehearsal dinner.

The wedding day dawned with the most beautiful, cloudless blue sky.  The day was off to a perfect start.  Jess and Maura stayed with Niki throughout her bridal prep and Jules went to Jonathan’s boat where all the guys were getting ready. Needless to say, it was 2 pm before anyone knew it and Niki was walking down the isle to marry her true love.  After the ceremony it was off to the beach for pictures, then back to the Spring House for introductions, dinner, and dancing.  At the end of the evening, a fireworks display made the perfect ending to a perfect day and we’re truly thankful that we had a part in creating memories that will last a lifetime for Niki and Jonathan.

All the gorgeous flowers were created by Phyllis Rega, owner of Phyl’s Flowers in Stratford, Connecticut.  Her work is always incredible and this wedding was no exception.

Please send me information on photo package prices …..

I probably see an email with this request 15-20 times in any given week and I always think to myself, “if you were only shopping for a Honda or a Toyota, this question would be valid”.

You see, a car is a car is car.  It costs “X” amount of dollars to build, it comes with an invoice and within reason, most auto dealerships are within a hundred dollars or so for the same make and model of a vehicle.  At the end of the day, whether it comes from car dealership A or car dealership B, it’s still the same make, model and quality.

Yes, if wedding photography were only that simple, it would be a wonderful world.  However, getting a “price” for a wedding photo package from four, five, six or ten photographers will not get you the “best” deal in town.  Unfortunately, your fingers just can’t do the walking on this purchase because a digital camera does not a photographer make.

The biggest difference I see in pricing differentials is ability.  A quality photographer knows their worth, they know how much goes into processing those images after the wedding, and clearly their ability to take pictures on your wedding day and make “magic” is a gift that you just can’t put a price tag on.

The next difference is the quality of the product.  Yes, some photographers sell sub-par products and charge less money.  Many products look the same but in fact are not.  It’s always wise to shop by product name.

If you are purchasing a coffee-table style album (sometimes referred to as “flush mount” or “collage” albums), you also need to be on your guard.  While a brand name album may be the same quality, not all design is created equal.

Design can make or break an album.  There are programs and even album manufacturers that let you drag and drop images into a template and in 30 minutes you have a completed album.  That’s a great idea but more often than not, it results in throwing as many images on a page as possible and frankly, that’s not album design.  Album design should be done with forethought and purpose so that it becomes an eye-catching and pleasing work of art that celebrates the wedding day.

And last, but by no means least, not all photographers work at their craft full-time.  For some, wedding photography is just a great way to make some extra money.  There are no affiliations to national or international governing bodies, no insurance, no overhead and a questionable commitment beyond the wedding day.

Here are some guidelines when choosing a wedding photographer:
1.  Visit the photographer in person.  I know time is precious but this is not a mistake you can afford. Make sure that you love his or her work and that you feel confident that he or she can produce the results you’re looking for on your wedding day.
2.  Ask to look through complete weddings.  See what a wedding shoot looks like from start to finish.  This will also tell you whether or not the images they’re displaying on the internet are consistently good or just a series of “happy accidents”.  Anyone can get “lucky” now and then but it takes a true professional to create beautiful images from start to finish on a wedding day.
3.   Ask how their images are finished.  Yes, finished.  In years gone by, a photographer that shot film lived and died by the lab that developed their images.  Digital photography has not changed that.  Images still need to be color corrected and tonally enhanced.
4.  If you are purchasing a coffee-table or flush-mount style album, ask to view several albums and look carefully at the design.  Are all the pages similar?  When you look at a page, are you overwhelmed because it’s just too busy?  Does the design flow from page to page?  And, by the way, who designs the albums?

If you follow those guidelines, you may spend a little more than you had planned on your wedding day photography but all those special memories will be beautifully preserved for your lifetime and beyond.

So, what do we charge for our photo packages?  That depends first on how many photographers you want and how long they will be working.  Second, it depends on what type of album you are you looking for. Once we know those two things, we can give you an accurate price but . . . . it’s always worth your while to come in and look so that you know exactly what we’re selling and exactly what you’ll be buying.

At Image, “we don’t just take pictures . . . we create memories”!

The Image Team

Image Team

L/R: Rosie, Joules, Chris, Jess, Mike & Ulrich. "B" took the picture.

Rose Mary Lalonde (co-founder of Image) a/k/a “Rosie”, has been a photographer since 1974. Wow, that long huh?   Along with her passion for photography and video, she performs 90% of the video post-production, including all the ArtHouse edits.  She’s also the voice on the office phone and is generally the person that meets with our perspective clients.

Mike Lalonde (co-founder of Image), is a cabinet-maker/contractor turned videographer. Mike is responsible for getting the second angle shots (known as the safety shot in the industry).  He’s also responsible for recording stellar audio along with the video as well as ensuring that those HD cameras have enough light to capture crisp, clear images.

Jessica Iovino, known to all as “Jess”, is the eldest of Mike and Rose Mary’s daughters. This is the lady with the “eye” for those amazing shots and the energy to keep the momentum going.  Jess’ first foray into photography was in high school, where she excelled at those avant-garde shots that today are known as photojournalism.  And, from uniquely posed family and group shots (that don’t take forever to obtain) to those absolutely one-of-a-kind romantic wedding portraits, Jess’ purpose driven photography will rock your world!

Juliana Keklik, our “Joules”, is a true photojournalist.  With a background and minor degree in Art, she also has field marketing experience for MTV Campus Invasion Tours.  Her skill set allows her to bring a different insight to a wedding shoot.  She’s always looking for those “edgey” shots that give a completely difference perspective to the subject.

Chris J. Rivera, “Chris”, has a true charm that puts the subject at ease.  Chris’ objective is to make the wedding day shoot fun and collaborative.  He has a refined eye for composition and the reflexes to capture a golden moment with no forewarning.

Ulrich Vilbois, is our lead videographer.  He has an amazing background in television and every type of video imaginable (from underwater to helicopters and everything in-between).  A native of France, he has worked in France, Finland, England, the Caribbean, and now here in the US.  Ulrich has an amazing eye for detail and is always in the right place at the right time to get those memorable shots.

Cheryl Wargo, known to all of us as “B”, is Mike and Rose Mary’s younger daughter.  Cheryl manages the Image Photo and Design branch in Jacksonville, NC (where her Marine husband is stationed) and is the main designer for all Image albums.  She was elected to “Who’s Who in High School Photography” and has a true gift for eclectic wedding photography and graphic design.   There’s no picture of “B” because she took the pictures.
